Overview
Dreams come true at Disney Parks around the world. However, some need more work than others. They may have lost their magical touch over the years. For this 6th challenge, we at Team Land have headed over to Hong Kong Disneyland. Our mission was to replace the cheaply done Toy Story Land with something more of the Disney spirit. Instead of a specific land with a backstory, we created a more general one that harkens back to the Disneyland of old. Presenting... Winterland!
The idea came to us when we realized that we needed something more general than Mystic Manor or Toy Story and not single-IP based. However, it was a bit of a challenge coming up with such a theme that had not already been used in existing lands. After exploring the possibilities, we decided to create a land for all things icy, snowy, and wintery. However, we wanted to stray away from using the film Frozen, because we felt that the presence of that IP would harm the atmosphere we created. A Frozen attraction would better fit in Fantasyland.
Winterland is divided into three smaller lands: the Icy Straight, Explorer's Cavern, and the Scandinavian Village.
Every night, the Northern and Southern Lights take over the sky using the "drone pixel" technology recently patented by Disney. This is a spectacular light show that blankets the sky and lasts about 15 minutes. The lights are low on the horizon, and thus unable to be seen from other lands. Also, guests can use the new Paint The Night Brushes to make the ice, glaciers and mountains change colors during the performance in the sky. From red to blue to green, guests will truly experience a spectacle of a lifetime!
We invite you to continue reading as we present our new attractions, restaurants, and shops, and take you on a tour of Winterland.
